Why Pontiac will never return...

GM has retired the Pontiac brand for a reason, so it can invest and build its other brands, this recipe is and has been very successful. We will all miss the brand but it was in decline for a long time and lacked overall direction and was horribly managed...

Agreed. I just hope GM finds a good way to compete with the new and reborn Dodge, which is positioning itself as an adrenaline-inducing driver's brand.

Perhaps the passion line within Chevy is the way to go:

chevy is seen as a family/value brand not a drivers brand so bring on pontaic

It only declined because GM let it happen. They made bad decisions and murdered the brand and it's a Shame. Screw them for that.

@dontbelate That's an overarching statement. To those who buy Sonic, Cruze Equinox, perhaps you're correct. But not to those who buy the Camaro.

Chevy can be many things to many people, including a mainstream maker of cars and a high-performance brand that instills passion.

@ dontbelate: I didn't know that Corvette and Camaro were family/value brands. :D
Also, the Sonic has a suspension tuned by Corvette engineers - at least that is what marketing info says. Sounds like affordable performance. Who else used to offer affordable performance? I wouldn't be surprised if the people who were responsible for the GOOD things about Pontiac (Engineering, Design, R&D, etc) are within the Chevy (and maybe Buick) group now.

@Brian_E They most certainly are. In fact, it's "GM engineering" and "GM design". The General just moves those folks around to different vehicles/project when the time calls for it.

In my opinion, the Sonic, Cruze, and Malibu are best-in-class when it comes to chassis tuning, ride, and handling. It's minor stuff like this that makes a car for me.
